THE GADFLY
Some folks just love to be provocative (which is a nice way of saying a pain in the butt). They claim to have no egos of their own and to be wise in the ways of the world far beyond the norm. They pride themselves on their imperviousness to criticism, but seem to be curiously thin-skinned at times. Unfortunately, they have the endearing habit of buzzing about prepared to show all and sundry the error of their ways at the drop of a hat.
Here comes the gadfly,
Eyes all agleam
Scurrying forth to puncture
His Latest Target’s esteem.
He’s all bloated up
With self-important gas
Trying to be an agent of truth
And not just an ass.
