THE SILENCE NOW SO LOUD
I heard the birds sing clear and strong,
And heard the small streams flow,
And heard the crickets in the glen.
But that was long ago.
And sometimes in the city
With sounds of bustling crowds,
I'd oft times long for silence;
The silence now so loud.

Author’s Note: This poem was written in the late 90s when the effects of Agent Orange were progressively taking my hearing. I now need duel hearing aids, which I haven't gotten yet.
