QUESTIONS LEFT UNANSWERED

He asked me how it came to pass
That we had gone to war.
He watched us on the evening news
And tried to understand
Why we were there so far away
To fight on foreign land.

"But who's to blame" he asked
"For all the things gone wrong
And all the soldiers who had died
And their families who had cried?
I still don't understand
Why you fought on foreign land."

He asked me this when he was old
And I was older still.
But after all these years
The answer's still the same.
There is no way to understand,
No where to place the blame.
