THE WINDOW TO THE STREET

My very good friend John, took this photo in the dawn
He captured the panorama of the grey and lonely street
Drinking coffee at the bar, he slowly sipped it down
whilst snapping more great photos of his town

the jazz was on his walkman as he wrote between the songs
of love and life and happiness of slights and blights and wrongs
Cause John’s a living poet with a camera or a pen
he spent his youth a’ soldiering, and lived amongst tough men

John is on the soldier’s pension – he receives his Army Cheque
The Government pays him little and they’re a real pain in the neck
There’s enough to buy the groceries, just enough to pay the rent
It don’t take long before it’s gone so soon it is all spent !

John he is a Canadian Poet, a photographer and a scribe
he turns out daily musings just like others of our tribe
He lends an ear when I shed a tear or whenever I need to rant
And so I pray each and every day that he soon gets a writer’s grant!
