RETIREMENT
What is it like when you decide to retire?
Does one sit around and just wait to expire?
As a retired career soldier I receive my Army pension
As a police communicator I worked under high tension
Some old army buddies daily walk the golf course
An old soldier friend retired with his dog and his horse
We try to help those Aids Orphans and the children of war
Retirement lifestyles are different and it is not like before
Reading the daily newspaper and the writing poor poems
Whilst working to help the needy in their wattle mud homes
Izzy Dolls, Boomer Caps and those Great Medical Supplies
Are gathered and are sent to Dell by both me and the guys!
Retirement oh retirement when will that come?
As we load up the trucks in the rain and the sun
Wheelchairs and crutches, walkers and canes
Keeping us active in spite of aches and pains
It’s a great life in retirement to finally have no boss?
Of course we are busy with our Canadian ICROSS
I still get daily orders from my best friend, my wife!
Four daughters and nine grand kids add love to my life!
Achy pains often come with age and that’s why we retired
Take up a hobby or complete tasks you’ve always admired
Keep yourself busy – be a local charity volunteer
Keep in touch with old friends and be of good cheer!
