BILLY WITH THE BED PANS

William H.A. Willbond MSM, CD: Billy With the Bed Pans
Taken in 1998, this photograph shows me with the nomadic peoples located between Garrissa and the Bura village near the Tana River thorn scrub desert south of Ethiopia and west of Somalia. These nomadic peoples had their goat herds wiped out by El Niño and the people of Canada, through CIDA, were working to make them self sufficient once again. We opened wells and goats were replaced in the area.
Passed by herds of goats and sheep
and Maasai cattle in de street
progress it was very, very slow
going up to Bondo with little Joe

The patients they were using cans
‘til Billy brought the new bed pans
and that was great, don’t you think
it was a brand new place to stink

He brought the stretchers and IV poles
an’ we accomplished most of our goals
Billy was sad and had a long hard cry
whilst watching a little orphan die

And that is why I’m coming back;
dolls and meds they’ll fill my pack
the busted tank turret cost a million USD
funds like that, could be used for HIV!
