FISHING WITH GRANDPA
When my Grandson Reggie Bast was asked by his grade one teacher to draw a picture of “love”, instead of the usual heart he drew a picture of fishing from the Elk Lake Pier situated on the West Side of Elk Lake and which is used by children and Seniors, and wheelchair patients etc.
The drawing is titled “Love” and he told his teacher: “I love to go fishing with my Grandpa and my Brother Desmond. That’s me and my Grandpa (the chubby guy in the middle) and my brother, Des fishing”. (Note the three rods and three lines in the blue waters of Elk Lake)
I keep this picture on my fridge door with/ magnets to constantly remind me that children instinctively know what is most important in life, and I urge all Grandpas’ to go fishing with their grandkids in order to savour the important things in life. Reg ate the two fish that didn’t get away (photo attached) and helped to clean them as well. Although, if you ask him, he will tell you about the big trout he caught (all by himself) up island. Many Blessings on all who sit by lake and stream or troll the quiet waters of Saanich Inlet on a sunny Sunday afternoon
