AN ODE TO MY LI’L BRUDDER BRIAN

Brian was born on de farm house kitchen table
Up at a place dey called Woodlawn
Jennie Vatty an aunt Margie were there a’helping me poor auld Mom
I sat up there upon the stair a’listening to the screams
But den aunt Margie saw me dere a’takin in de scene

She grabbed wee Billy be de ear an she locked de woodshed door
Cause little lads should not see dem a’workin at dat chore
I ran around dat ol’ brick house to de kitchen window sill
And dere I seen me brudder Brian a’cryin loud and shrill!
In came me dad wid a poocheen jug homemade by applejack Bill

Me Mom she cuddled liddle Brian to suck milk at her left breast
And Brian he den went silent as he snuggled in dat nest
Jennie Vatty got de mop to wash an clean de floor
‘Cause dere was guts an after birt an udder bits o’ gore
Aunt Margie had a look o’ joy – she screamed: “Billy dis is a boy”!

Dad he loved dat liddle guy he hugged him to his chest
Dat was de first o’ his son’s he’d seen, we tink he loved him best?
And Brian grew up to be a big man well over six feet tall
he was handsome, blonde, intelligent, de biggest of us all!
Because of his size de lads called him moose; like de Archie comic book
Wen Brian was young he had fun, blue eyes, blonde hair, good looks!

Brian married young, a blushing bride, Karen is his wife
Dey had some kids – yes dey did – dey carried on with life
De kids grew up and moved away and Brian he is sober today
After many years of beers and tears Brian joined a group at AA
He is a God fearing religious man who really knows how to pray!

Brian, he does volunteer work with the addicted at the county jail
He talks to guys who tell him lies about getting out on bail
You can’t BS a BSer, dat’s wat Brian he tol to me
Dese addicted guys dey all tell lies – from de drink dey still ain’t free!
I am proud an I say it out loud: “Brian is a hero to me! He survived de great Big C”!
