A VALENTINE POEM FOR MY WIFE, LYNNE

Lynne WillbondI didn’t want to cry or bitch or whine
I just want you to be my Valentine!
Back in nineteen hundred and sixty five
we used to twist and dance the jive

You and me, we both were quite hip
when I went off to serve with UNFICYP
We were young and did our time
you always were my Valentine!

Yes, we were young and had great fun
we travelled in the snow and sun
You stood by me through some tough times
I’m pleased you are my valentine!

So thank you Lynne for giving me
four daughters but it should be three?
The twins they came – ‘twas just on time
three in diapers – what a Valentine!

Making angels in the snow they sat
Edmonton and Petawawa PMG brats
You made them study hard for school
and love was always your golden rule!

Now I am old I am getting grey
we have seven grandkids here now today
I don’t have too much else to say
except: “have a happy Valentine’s Day!”
Because: “I love you any way!”

Author’s Note: The phrase, “I love you any way” is a private joke!
