SOME BLUE BERET THOUGHTS AND TEARS ABOUT RWANDA

Major General Romeo Dallaire

Awarded: November 2001Our General, Dallaire,
was treated unfair
when he asked for
troops to arrive.
The troops didn’t come
and the rule of the gun
was permitted to grow
and to thrive.
Fearful cries of the children,
faint voices of fright.
The mayhem continued;
blood flowed through the night.
Terror screams of the women,
guns sounded their plight.
Murderers slashed bayonets –
loud whoops of delight.
UN checks on that morning
found that not all had died.
A donkey, two infants and
three dogs survived.
The chaos and Carnage
put hundreds to flight.
The slaughter continues –
there’s no end in sight.
