PIONEER AXES
Each Pioneer, the battalion’s way, would traditionally clear
Then they wielded the heavy axes on parade each year
Sergeant Jimmy Waldron and Corporal Trevor Harris
Al Polowick and the trade pioneers and the others
They were Rifleman Pioneers and green jacket brothers
Marching out to the Battalion’s front on the feu de joie
The crowd ooh’d at the gleaming axes with civilian like awe
The axes are at rest now in the QOR museum
And in the attachments they can be seen!
