FIRST MEMORIES OF CHILDHOOD
My Dad was serving overseas
in Normandy with the GGFGs[1]
My Mom the rosary beads would pray
Three times Dad who was wounded in the fray
At six o’clock each evening
the battery was hooked up
I hear static on that old radio
as us children were hushed up
Churchill giving fiery talks
a message from the King
Murrow on the air waves
and Vera Lynn would sing
Daily news stories news from the front
to us children these were read
about the victories of our troops
on the beaches where they bled
