TURNING CHILDREN INTO MEN
(To my son my son, LCpl Greg A. Dague)

One day you came to me in peacetime of this Great Nation
Saying you wanted to enlist for an education.
You dreamed of being a teacher one day,
Of Kids you felt you could provide more than play;
To change the lives of a new generation,
Restore the basic values back into children.

The dream remains; your destiny unfulfilled
For off to fight a war has been the bill.
How high a price must be paid by all you men
To see Freedom remain – restored again?
That those same children you dreamed to reach
Might have their opportunity to share the freedom of speech
As is still your dream, your future yet
Should peace again return; so don’t forget
There’s a destiny that lies ahead yet unmet;
You’re teaching and learning today Ill bet.
It might just be in a different way than you had planned,
But God stepped in with is mighty Hand.

Continue to learn and teach and share,
God heard you dream and He does care!
He’s redirected your path a bit,
But He also made sure that you were fit
For the teaching job He’s lead you to do;
It turned out to be for the red, white and blue.

Greg, you will always a student of the world and a teacher in whatever situation you may find yourself.
