Earl R. Watkins II

COME AND GO

The men that went to war and died,
their families stayed at home and cried.
There was no time to run away,
The bullets were too thick that day.

There were too many of them to kill,
Taking lives, I’ve had my fill.
They came like there was no end
Our country we had to defend

So though good soldiers come and go
Through rain, the desert, wind and snow
They march until they can’t no more
then with the eagles they soar

So when your time to fight has come,
Will you curl into a ball and suck your thumb?
Or will you go to the battle to fight
To take the line with all your might?

How many men will die before
We no longer go to war?
It will take us many years
Until the families no longer shed the tears.

So though good soldiers come and go
Through rain, the desert, wind, and snow
They march until they can no more
then with the eagles they soar.
