THRU THE EYES OF ONE
To All of Our Veterans Who Gave Their All

War is hell veterans often say
No one likes or wants war any way
Those of us who have seen war face to face
Wish to the Almighty, that war would never cover the land with waste

Where the ground is torn and ripped open by falling bombs and rockets
Like the moon with deep craters, that is what the ground looks like
Sometimes littered with remains of cloth, blood and bone,
Some die only to be forgotten except by their loved ones

Young Americans quickly aged by only being a survivor
Wishing peace would quickly occur
Sometimes they have a thousand yard stare
In deep thought, thinking of those that are no longer here

Yes, only thru the eyes of one who has seen destruction
They only want to return home safely to their loved ones
Yes, they return home but they cannot forget those left behind
Nor can they forget where they aged so quickly and grieved
