FORT LEWIS SOLDIER’S WALK

Broadcast on the evening news
Intimate videos he’d made
for his children and wife

He is more than just another statistic
Of “Enduring Freedom”
He is one of ours

God, why did this walk in life;
Ask him to leave your little ones?

Faithful recorded messages
are all his children will have
to remember:
What will their walk in life be without him?

He volunteered so many times
Each time the walk brought him home
But this time the walk ended
On a path far from home

As his Flag draped casket
… comes off the plane
We watch in silent horror
He will be laid to rest at home

On the news we heard his voice
Saw his smiles, his goofy faces
The love in his eyes for his children and wife
But his final walk did not end in Afghanistan
It ended up in all our hearts.

Will he be the last one?
