Johnny Cash enlisted and served in the USAF from 1950 to 1954, He served most of his enlistment in Bavaria, Germany where he was a Morse code intercept operator with the USAF security service, listening to radio signals generated from behind the "Iron Curtain". It was during that time that he was able to purchase his first guitar.
