EDGAR A. TIEMAN
BLACKEST DAY!
From Sea to Shining Sea tears welled up
Uniting the hearts of this Nation into one
No one here on earth could truly know
The horrible and painful death they suffered through
Many souls that day passed through the earthly veil
To heavens shore and God's comforting love
For He saw their tears, heard their cries, and shared their pain
And listened to each and every prayer
He touched each soul to ease their pain
Then dried each tear with His loving touch
One. Two. Three. Four.
First World Trade Tower
Second World Trade Tower
Third The Pentagon
Fourth Pennsylvania
All passengers and crews are dead
Even before the first collision
There were prayers, cries, fear, and resistance
Love ones talking to love ones on cell phones
One-called 911 - no help came
A wife called The Pentagon no help came
Some could only leave a message of love,
on an answering machine at home.
So helpless they felt
Then a horrible painful silence came to them.
New York and the Nation shook
Thundering sounds confused the morning tone
Angry red and orange flames rained down
Boiling black smoke filtering out the sun
That day, Lives and of a Nation are forever changed
Screaming, running, trying to escape
The fiery inferno for those inside
Also rained down on those below
So many stories were being told
That touched each heart and every heart
E-mails, phone calls and messages left
Love ones, and friends talked to the very end
Some did not hear till they arrived home
Those were the saddest stories of all
Acts of unselfish bravery
Down below at ground level
Screaming, running, sirens blare
300 fire-fighters and police came to help
Nothing I could as I watched
The Towers collapse raining fire and debris
300 fire-fighters and police lay trapped
I heard them and nothing I or any one else could do
As did fellow brothers thousands of miles away
The squelching sound of 300 Life packs going off
Under tons of structural debris that fell that day
That will take many months to clear away
Heroes, friends, and love ones died that dreadful day
Now the arduous task to find them has begun
One bucket full at a time
One piece of debris at a time
When will all be found?
One bucket full at a time.
One piece of debris a time.
