SHADOW

Somewhere in the reaches of my mind
Old friends and lovers await my call
Knowing fully that in my way
I truly loved them all.
And though the memories may dim
In the face of spiritual plunder
The times we shared
Can never be put asunder
As long as we keep the faith
And stay in the know
For this isn't the Real World,
Only its Shadow

Author’s Note: I've written and re-written this piece more than a dozen times over the past decade and a half and am still not satisfied with it, as simple as it is. That's what I get for dwelling on the small stuff!
