TELL ME...
Oh world news agencies,
in the realm of reality TV...
You're trying for your daily piece
of sordid infamy
You are quick to tell us,
rightfully though
Of the seventeen who shamed us
most disgustingly so
Now tell us of the more than three
hundred and twenty five thousand
Performing admirably and without question
under hot, desert Arab sun
You show us bombed buildings
and refuge tent laden sands
Equal time for new schools,
hospitals and clinics - per chance?
Show us intelligent Iraqi women
striving to find their voice
That in this new time for their country
they'll be given equal choice
Show us the Kurd shopkeeper
who can soon gain and prosper
Without greasing greedy palms
or feeding Saddam's coffer
Have we sent the wrong message;
that only smut and shock sell?
No war is ever pretty; each
Its own unique form of ____
Do we stand idly by
and let them continue to malign
All those who choose sacrifice
to give other's their life's time
Tell me in what world court
the good becomes undone
When the dedicated outweigh the bad
twenty thousand to one
We'll stand behind our troops
until the last one is home
Beside them through thick and thin
to the very roots they've sown
Now we go one step further
in defense of all of you
We'll step in front of the camera
to see that you get safely through
God bless and cover our military, leaders
and families - let them feel our unconditional
love, gratitude and support. Amen.
