HEAT IN THE DESERT

The desert is once again heating up
as the sand blows constantly into each cup.
I wonder how long it will take when back
to not expect grit in every crook and crack.

You're in the vicinity of where time began
Gethsemane, Dead Sea and the Holy Land;
A place where feudal warlords still have a stronghold
intimidating their flocks instead of encouraging the fold.

You scare them so badly, just the thought of you
because you counteract every wrong they seek to do.
You represent freedom and a certain way of life
not given to threats, idleness, cowardice and strife.

You care for their children, wanting healthcare and schools
you want them to make sound choices, their own new rules.
Knowing we can't live in the past alone, we all need a today
you've chosen to fight for their rights, even if it means to stay.

For just a little longer to insure their democracy begins
this battle really isn't about you, it's the Iraqis who will win.
Every great change that comes in life exacts a price
for us it's been your strength and utter sacrifice.

By helping more countries gain freedoms and rights
you're building more strength in our homeland fights.
For someday terror will have no place to call home
they'll be set off like nomads, constantly to roam.

God bless your hearts as you continue the task
you're giving your all, much more than we asked
To ensure that America remains strong and free
a beacon to all - as the birthplace of liberty.
