REMEMBERING LINDA
Lord, I will not ask you why
But excuse me if I start to cry
Linda is more than just a friend
For the 240th she was a godsend
Old wounded warriors from long ago
Most fellow citizens gave us the heave-ho
The smell of JP4 and gunpowder still in the air
Afraid to sleep for fear of a nightmare
No place to gather on the internet
Unlike many of the other Vietnam Vets
Wishing for a unit website
Our chopper outfit was in a sorry plight
God, as you guided us in flight
Getting us through the firefights
To get our unit recognized online
You sent us a beautiful ray of sunshine
Once again you helped us through the fray
Because of Linda the 240th had a beautiful display
LZ, Flightline and Flight Operations came to be
Her fingertips worked magic on the keyboard for all to see
Our spirits, like our Hueys, began to soar
Old buddies reunited and again developed a rapport
Turn on the computer and a click of the mouse
Warriors could once again reunite from the comfort of their house
Now our godsend angel is hurting like the wounded on a hot LZ
Fighting for each breath of life so please Lord show her some mercy
We want her to stay with us as much as you might need her above
She is a lady that is so giving in life and so full of love
Your need Father was greater than ours
We on earth no longer have our shining star
We will try not to falter and ask you why
But please excuse us if we start to cry
We will never forget how fortunate we were
To have Linda in our lives but it seemed like a blur
She is now among Your flock gazing on Heaven’s scene
Being saluted by the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy and United States Marines

Author’s Note: This poem was written by Joe ‘Ragman’ Tarnovsky, Crew Chief/Doorgunner of the 240th Assault Helicopter Company, Mad Dog Gun Platoon, December 31th, 2009. It is dedicated to the memory of the 240th’s friend who created their websites, Linda (Luther) Graham, and passed away December 30th, 2009. The font color is green on white paper, the colors of the 240th’s tail boom markings while serving in South Vietnam. We will never forget you, Linda, your kindness, generosity and love for us, the 240th AHC, will always be remembered.
Eileen,
I wrote this for Linda to show the love, respect and admiration, not only I have, but the entire 240th Assault Helicopter Company has for her, your sister and TJ’s wife. Please know that the 240th AHC shares your family’s sadness and grief but we as a unit, and Cecelia and myself, will never forget all she has done for us and the love she has given.
Love,
Joe and Cecelia
