MELISSA

Melissa had a love of pets
She often took them in
Cats and dogs and ferrets
And the cage to put them in

Melissa’s real fondness though
Were the birds of prey she had
She trained them in the snow
On how to fish for shad

The birds loved the fishing trips
But what the birds really liked
Was the October hunting trip
For pheasants of the ring neck type

Once in a while a ferret made a tasty lunch
Then Melissa would scold group
And swear to sack the bunch
She said, “Careful. Or you’ll be buzzard soup”
