Melinda found a sorcerer’s wand
Hidden in an old stone carriage house
She used it on a frog in a lily pond
She changed him into a country mouse

Kept her mouse in a bureau drawer
With a match box for a bed
Four match legs and no headboard
She named her little mouse Fred

Fred enjoyed his life as a mouse
But Melinda changed him again
She made him the man of the house
She kept him hidden in the den

Fred never knew the reason
He always wanted a dip in the pond
Especially in the mating season
When he heard sweet croaking songs
