BLUE AND GRAY

The battle raged from dawn till dark
Wounded resting in the glade
From the first musket spark
History was being made

Twelve thousand strong, from the start
Dwindled to three thousand give or take
The Blue and Gray weren’t far apart
When they lay molding in the grave

Brother fought brother, history says
No one knew, for sure, just why
While wounded shivered in their bed
Another ten thousand soldiers died

The battle raged from dawn till dark
Wounded resting in the glade
The North and South made their mark
While history was being made
