ANOTHER VETERANS DAY

The Dime Store flowers have faded
Their wire stems are coming untied
Weeds and quack grass have invaded
The Veterans plot where you now lie

The granite headstone is cold and damp;
A November snow has covered the top
The flame flickers in the oil lamp,
The cold north wind won’t stop

Another Veterans Day has come and gone
Another government holiday
But it won’t change that you’re a mother’s son
And the ultimate sacrifice you made

We need to remember everyday
Not just once a year
You helped America make its way
You made its purpose right and clear

Pomp and ceremony once a year
Remembering all of you
Let Americans hold you dear
And salute the Red, White, and Blue
