THE YELLOW RIBBON
Alas my love,
you leave my side.
Upon the plane,
you dare to ride.
It’s wings they lead,
to lands so poor.
Where men do fight,
in acts of war.
This yellow ribbon,
I will place
around your neck,
to touch your face.
It’s silky threads,
forever kept.
Embracing tears,
you will have wept.
In times of darkness,
and of fear
hold this ribbon,
oh so dear.
Be safe my love,
hold my heart.
Keep it safe,
while we’re apart.
My darling one,
my handsome soldier
when this time apart
is over.
Bring this ribbon,
to my heart
and swear once more
never to part.
