JOHN’S STORY

‘Aye, I heard there was goings on, I declare
Ahh… the girl with the red feathers in her hair
she was a beauty… but I never went there
I was told she would bathe me and thrill me
but I didn’t go there… don’t you see…
as sure as I breathe and the sun does shine
I never paid a penny to make her mine
On my mothers’ grave I swear, I never went there
(never mind that my mother’s alive) Innocent… I still swear…
as innocent… as the girl with the red feathers in her hair’

Author’s Note: This poem is a response to a story by Colin Jones who admitted that he was caught hiding under a bed in a “House of Ill Repute” by the Military Police. He swears they only found him because he was unaware that his feet were sticking out from under the bed and that, anyhow, he was only playing cards. Laughing at it all…
