INSPIRATION

Inspiration is such a funny thing
It can be set off by memory’s ring

A thought that you just had
Be it good or be it bad

A certain song on the radio
Opening memories of long ago

A certain slant of the light
The shadowy sounds of night

The wind blowing though the trees
Bringing a certain smell on the breeze

Something that another has said
A few simple words in a book read

A summer rainstorm at sunset
So many ways that you forget

I’ve been thinking; know what I guess.
Inspiration is a lot like post-traumatic stress

Is inspiration what brought the pen to hand
Or trauma’s insistent never-ending demand
