Victoria, Australia: February 2009
Matthew Klitscher from the Country Fire Service says the fires are unlike any he has experienced before. “Like a bomb has gone off, it’s stuff that we’ve seen before, but obviously not on the scale it was,” he said.
A CURSE

Road by road
House by house
The death toll mounts
Raging bush fires
Eating homes
And church spires
Who are the demons
Who set these blazes
May they burn in Hell
Throughout the ages
Lives lost cannot be replaced
Australia’s animals’ habitat
Is now a blackened space
Where Koala roamed
And the Kangaroo
Called home
The Cockatoo cries
As Australia’s wildlife dies
Families weep for loved ones lost
And the many brave fire fighters
Who have paid the cost

Who are the demons
Who set these blazes?
May they burn in Hell
Throughout the ages!
