THE NIGHT WATCHMAN
Night time… and it does start
Impossible to be sleeping
It’s too noisy here in the dark…
sounds of old ghosts weeping
Be still… lay silent
Oh, my long departed friend…
memory does not relent
nor shall it ever end
Sounds of battle ring in my ears
in this nightly advent of my fears
Shrill sounds of the dying do peal
as all my senses begin to reel
Act one… Act two…
are played out before the night is through
Could it have been a different end
were I able to go back and do it again
Leave me alone now
for finally daylight is near
and before you I bow…
clearing old battles out of here
Had I died along with you…
it would have fallen to others
to keep this night watch through…
in memory of our perished brothers
