after her helicopter was shot down near Fallujah, IraqOld Glory waves at half mast
above the hearts… downcast
Faint winter sunshine
is weeping down
gently on the falling tears
tears of sadness…
tears of pride…
and hurting tears of pain…
Freedom had been her aim
Friends and family
standing side by side…
standing so still in pride
Among the head stones…
the honor guard comes
weaving its way to the weeping ones
A folded flag handed… with sadness…
in the air the echo of twenty one guns…
