ARLINGTON VIEW

Down from the mountains
headed for a distant field
... too far away as yet...
for images to yield
The closer I get
... the clearer I see
but not quite yet
is the field
in focus to me
Far... so far
from where I belong
... the mountains that
I call my home...
for I must see
what the valley does hold
... be it of sorrow or gold
A sight... a sight my heart sees
... overcome I fall to my knees
As far as my eyes can see
... rifles bayoneted upright
and with helmets atop
... a frozen-in-time sight...
rows and rows... upon rows and rows
I turn... heading home to my mountains...
still... forever with me... the image goes...
