A TRAITOR I AM NOT

Here at home my mind flows far and wide
In search of definitions in my heart
Trying hard to explain
Feelings of bloodthirsty wars
A traitor I am not

I feel these soldiers in anguish cry
Wishing for their mothers arms
Bloody bullet riddled bodies
Red sand beneath
Hearts crying to die
To suffer no more pain
A traitor I am not

Blood seeping, drying combined in tears
Rasping words not understood
Comrades praying, weapons in hand
So soon they are to die
A traitor I am not

Hearing bursting bombs ravish souls from afar
Enemies creeping to steal last breaths
Falling to depths unseen to eyes
How deep the sand beneath
Fearing honor diminished beyond death
Pleading not to die
Oh God send light to fallen souls
A traitor I am not

Fainting breaths whisper farewells to go unheard
At home I feel your pain
Hearts broken as door bells ring
As soldiers appear to explain your fate
He died a hero
A flag given to console
Memories etched not forgotten by mankind
A traitor I am not
