THANKSGIVING PRAYER

Dear Lord
please hear this prayer.
This year, I’ll leave an empty chair
to mark the spot
where someone should have been.
My son is home
but many sons are not;
and so I thought
I’d say a prayer for them –
and for those who wait,
hoping that it’s not too late.
Lord, when you see that empty space
meant for those who haven’t come home yet –
Let them know –
I didn’t forget.
