I AM… SOLDIER’S MOTHERS’ CRIES

Handmade oil painting reproduction of Harold's (c.1022-66) Last Stand, illustration from British Battles on Land and Sea edited by Sir Evelyn Wood (1838-1919) first published 1915, a painting by Richard Caton Woodville.I Am…
a cacophony of sound
thunderous and echoing
off the ground
and moving upwards
to the heavens
and the cloud ~
I Am…
only able to be heard
by God;
a sound so loud;
born of terrible pain
and made up of many
a child’s first name.
I Am…
sent forth from an aching heart
ushered by the angels
through silvered clouds,
and rainbows rent
with grief.
I Am…
a dying leaf
on the family tree
I Am now,
what will no longer be –
and the deafening sound
causes God to sigh
I Am…
the cacophony of
the soldiers’ mothers’
………… CRIES
