HANDS ARE NOT FOR HITTING

Words should never hurt us
and Hands should never hit ~
Wartime changes everything;
for pain and harm come with it
There are always those good soldiers
who take exception to the Rule ~
Although they may be fighting,
they choose not to be cruel.
One may kill a father
and then comfort a small child,
another blows a house up
and then offers mercy, sweet and mild –
Our hands are made for hugging,
for tracing tear tracks when they fall
If our Words could carry healing
I wonder: Would we be there at all?
