A SON OF THE SOUTH
He was a blue-eyed military man;
a son of the South, with a Western soul;
and he flew free as an eagle.
Irresponsible and untethered
he would say love words,
but never make promises like "Forever".
He made the ladies smile.
Each was sure she'd be the one
who would clip his Southland wings
and capture his wayward heart.
But in the end he'd march away,
and go off to war.
