FOREVERMORE
We went off to serve our country
Went off to a foreign land
Lived in the sweat and rocket city
We went to war, we took a stand
Keep those people free they told us
Save them from the evil men
Fought like our fathers in the big one
We gave it all for that jungle land
I come home and no one liked me
Called me baby killer and more
They pulled our troops and gave it to Charlie
Now I think, “what was it all for?”
And the sun rose this morning
The colors spoke to me
Forty years and counting Lord
Some things never leave
Moonlight on the water
Soothes my weary eyes
Been a long time a coming home
And searching for my pride
Men with scars in mind and body
Victims of a half-fought war
Uncle Sam wouldn’t let us fight 'em
The NVA kept coming for more
Maybe it was right, maybe it was wrong
I just don’t know which anymore
Now the pain and hollow feelings
Haunt my soul forevermore
