AS I REMEMBER
We were proud as we could be in our new blue uniforms
Standing tall with our chests pumped out
We were kicking ass man, trained to serve our country
Like our dads and uncles in World War II
And our granddads in World War I
Yeah, we were ready man
The red hot sun burned to the bone
When it rained there was mud everywhere
On our boots, in our socks
It was like it was alive man
It was everywhere
And when it rained, it rained hard
Boredom in the tower
Staring into the night and the ville
Old dogs snaked around
Papasan took leaks outside his hooch
Rice bugs would fly towards the light and bang off my helmet
Looked like flying cockroaches to me
Pistol shots in town, not to worry
Only if they kept getting closer...
And sometimes they did
A drink in the morning
Strong on cold ice
Mamasan, chao ko dep, you smell so good
Why you hit me?
I love you number one, take you back states
Why you run away?
Another hate Vietnamese day
Take me home man; I'm just back from Viet Nam!
Why aren't you saying anything?
Mr. Cab driver man,
Can't you be a little excited for me?
What's going on man?
I was proud as I could be
In my four year old blue uniform
Still kicking ass
But for me, I think the
War had just begun
