WARRIOR’S LAMENT
Do you remember that time long ago?
When we young men were so macho?
About the times
Those heady times
That forgotten war fought in our minds?
Was it our country that sent us there?
Shunning burdens we now bear?
What is the truth
The honest truth
About youth lost in time somewhere?
In mountain jungles we defeated
Every gun trying to do us wrong
They couldn’t beat us
They couldn’t break us
We were brave, we were strong.
Some people think that we lost battles
Some think soldiers lost the war there
They can’t prove that
Because it’s not true!
We veterans know, but does anyone care?
Truth would vaporize their myths,
So they cower with “Truth is relative,
“What feels right, must be so”
Not seeing that is why
Wars once won by our blood our sons relive.
