A SOLDIER DIDN’T CRY
I watched a soldier say farewell
And hold his family close
He laughed and smiled all the while
And gently wiped away their tears
But the soldier never cried…! Then Why Did I?
I watched a soldier as she kneeled
Beside the still body of a child
Her face was worn and haggard
As she gently held his hand
But the soldier never shed one tear…! Then Why Did I?
On another windswept day
I watched a soldier as he sat
Cradling the body of his friend
As her soul quietly slipped away
But the soldier never shed a tear…! Then Why Did I?
On a quiet chill November’s day
I watched the Veterans as they sat
Lost within memories of by gone years
Listening as the Bugler played out Taps
I wondered why as these soldiers cried…! Why Didn’t I?
