MY GOLDEN-HAIRED PRINCESS
For Michaela

My golden haired princess started school today
I kissed her goodbye, then cried when the bus pulled away
The last of my babies… so hard to let go
There were five before her, now some have grown
She notices the leaves as they fall from the trees
She always finds time to pick flowers for me
A bouquet of dandelions, a handful of leaves
She always stops to smell the roses she sees
She hugs me and says, Mama, I’ll always be here
I’ll never leave you, I’ll always be near
Laughs, and giggles, and words of love she spoke
Pictures of hugs and kisses she wrote
She’d say, Mama, You’ll always be my best friend
I’ll be here forever, My love will not end
Now all I hear is the clock on the wall
The house is so quiet, my name no one calls
I know she’ll grow and new friends she will make
Wherever she goes, my love she will take
I hope someday she finds a prince… no less
Someone who deserves a golden haired princess
