MEMORIES THAT NEVER FADE

It was not for fame or fortune
These young men went to war
It was from the call of duty
They walked on distant shores

They were so young and innocent
Just backwoods country boys
The only gun some ever owned
Was a simple childish toy

They jumped down from the chopper
Not knowing what lay in store
Their innocence was shattered
Young boys they were no more

The images of war
Forever etched within their minds
They made it home but never escaped
The Hell they left behind

Fame should have been theirs
Marching in a grand parade
No "Welcome Home," No "Thank You"
Only memories that never fade.
