A SOLDIER'S EMPYREAN

I stand here on sacred ground in silence
Enveloped by the souls who wander here
I reach out and touch names on a granite wall
Only the sounds of silence do I hear

Across this green expanse of sacred ground
I feel the souls of men whose names are on The Wall
I have somehow been touched by these heroes
who honorably answered their countries call

Is this a brave soldier's heaven
Do their souls inhabit this consecrated place
Are they really here... and am I...
Or am I peering through Heaven's gates

Can I really stand here and peer into Heaven
As I see all these men who are finally free
Have I journeyed into the abode of Angels
Or has the Empyrean reached down to me
