THE CAUSE

Sometimes I think of all the lessons
Taught to me by war
Like duty, honor, freedom
Those things worth fighting for

The cause was just yet twisted
But the ones who sit on high
And so the sacrifice was made
By those they sent to die

I’ve stood there in that angry rain
I’ve watched it take its toll
And seen the madness in us
When the world had lost control

I’ve known the touch of burning steel
And heard a dying breath
I’ve seen a dawn come angry
And I’ve felt the touch of death

I’ve seen the strength found in the heart
Of those who stood the line
I’ve seen those things inside of us
That words cannot define
