JIMMY’S SONG
(For James Caldwell Sp4, 23rd Infantry, Americal Div.)
He learned it much too quickly
He learned it far too well
He learned it much too deeply
For his words to ever tell
He saw the price of freedom
And the cost to make a stand
He saw too many battles
That didn’t turn out just as planned
Inside an ache still haunts him
A land of dark and cold
He never thought come twenty-one
That he could be so old
Still lessons learned remain now
Along with sorrows true
But he knows just who he did it for
His sweet red white and Blue
