HEADED DOWN RIVER

The last time that I saw him
He was smiling with that grin
He said that he would be back but
Was not sure about just when

For he was headed down the river
Such an angry place of need
For he had a job to do there
Facing ‘Charlie’ was the deed

And so that day he sailed away
To do the angry quest
And in that hell we heard he fell
My God I hate this test

He was a shiner oh so bright
He fell instead of me
I’ve known the price a brother paid
In the name of liberty
