YOU'RE IN MY HEART
Today I stand in silent grief
remembering a place and time
the faces of the friends and foes
encrypted with a nation's crime.
Of all those who once played a part
in this outrageous, hateful scene,
did one, just one came out unharmed
unspoiled, untouched by all things seen?
How fast a nation will forget,
how quick will they call it "the past"
but to each comrade still alive
it is the present - and it lasts.
It fills a part of every day
it hurts a moment every night
and it's a legacy that makes
a brotherhood of strength and might.
I've never met a better kind
of people that the Vietnam vets
who still today fight for their rights
and stand so proud without regrets
So many statues have been built
that honors all that passed away
let's join our spirits nationwide
supporting those alive today.
