VETERANS DAY, 2008
It’s Vets Day once more in 2008
A few days early, but better than late
To all of my brothers, here’s this year’s tribute
Along with my sharp if not shaky salute
And to those who would steal the honor of these
I offer what’s left when one cuts the cheese!
Remember when we suffered no phony fools
When being Nam vets wasn’t thought of as cool?
You was or you wasn’t, it’s simple as that
Whether or not you bought the hat
Cause with or without it, we know who we are
But that just doesn’t shine the wannabe’s star
They are as a stuffed bird, unable to sing
A cheap and lifeless version of the real and righteous thing
Which brings me back to you my brothers, now that I’ve had my say
I wish for every one of you a blessed Veterans Day!
